Not because you can’t but, because you won’t put in the work.
And, to be bluntly honest, I don’t blame you. The truth is, network marketing requires far more work than the compensation you receive…at first. That’s the whole point- a point most people have a real hard time grasping because all of us are used to earning linear money, not leveraged, residual income.
So grasping the concept of being vastly underpaid now, probably for the first 6-12 mos, in exchange for being paid extremely well later, compensation that can grow for years- is the key to your survival.
But, there’s more to the ugly truth than learning to accept the concept of leveraged, residual income- a lot more.
There are 3 steps to building a serious income in this business that have to be executed every single time- there are no exceptions or short cuts.
Sounds simple enough but, this is where 98% of you reading WILL fail...unless you grasp these steps, carefully.
Follow- Everybody loves to think they are or can become a leader but, most never make it past the first step. Everybody wants to push everybody else, shrug the work up to their upline, or look for that ‘perfect recruit’, The Builder. You will never become a great leader until you can become a great follower, first. Every company in the business promotes this concept but, they do it knowing that most people are not sponsored by the right person.
This business, to make serious money, has to be executed like any other skill set business. Attorney’s go to law school and usually come out being hired by a firm as a low level attorney- mostly doing the prep and practice for a case with and for one of the senior members or partners. Much like doctors become interns before they practice, much like masons begin as apprentices, much like realtors begin, etc.
Less than 2% of distributors in this business follow this model- they get their products, website, videos and phone app and simply go out and start talking to people…usually chasing people away, they quickly burn through their warm market and can’t figure out what went wrong. Or, they’ve got some experience in network marketing and their warm market was long ago left smoldering from their last attempt.
In order to truly FOLLOW correctly, you absolutely MUST have the right sponsor. If you’ve been in your company for more than 3 months and you haven’t completed your frontline (2 in a binary, 3 in a unilevel)- you do not have the right sponsor…or, you’ve let excuses get in your way. Do that in law or medical school and you’ll never make it to being able to practice. Do that in the labor trades and you’ll quickly find yourself out looking for another opportunity.
To FOLLOW correctly, you need a sponsor that is DOING, and you need a sponsor that will work your prospects WITH you- even better, a great sponsor should help you create even more prospects. If you don’t have the right sponsor to follow, I’d suggest you find another company…or I should say, find the right sponsor and join whatever company they tell you to join. Less than 3% of you will make that choice- instead, you’ll try to go it alone and become the sponsor you should have had. That is an option but, you’ll have to work 10 times as hard. Your call.
To FOLLOW, you need a system to plug into, training, 3ways, events, etc. and, you MUST participate at every single opportunity.
You’ll know when you’re good follower, with the right sponsor, you’ll be adding people within 30 days of getting started. You’ll know when you’re a good follower, without the right sponsor, you’ll be adding people in less than 30 days if you’ve got a decent warm market, several months if you have to build outside your warm market.
Step 2- DO, is almost automatic IF, you have the right sponsor and you’re a good follower. Most people never make it this far and when they do, they can’t keep their doing consistent. Network marketing is like building the Grand Canyon with a leaking faucet- if you keep the water running, even at a trickle, it will cut deep and last for years and years to come. However, most people, because we’re used to linear income, work in spurts. We push so hard our eyeballs get bruised, put some people in, make a little money, those people we put in do nothing and then we run out of breath. You cannot build the Grand Canyon with a raging river. It might work for Mother Nature- it won’t work for you.
So, the key to being a Doer is to remember that you must DO, every single week. This means you MUST enroll or sell products and services, every single week. To quote a great movie, “Good friend? I don’t care. Good parent- good for you, go home and play with your kids. If you want to build this business, you gotta do, you gotta CLOSE.”- Glenn Garry Glenn Ross (Ok, I paraphrased a little bit)
To DO in this business is to DO something less than 3% of distributors ever make happen- you have to DO (enroll), every single week! Most will either never get here or, most will try to enroll a bunch in a single week and then they can’t duplicate with that many new starts and their whole plan falls apart.
To DO, in this business, requires restraint- that’s so hard for most people with the greatest potential. Every single person you enroll, you have to plug them in to FOLLOW and then, you have to actually DO with them, for them. Every new person you enroll must be your apprentice or intern- they absolutely should NOT be DOING anything more than introducing YOU.
Finally, the last step- TEACH.
Most people getting started want to skip to right here- they simple plug people into their ‘system’ and call that teaching. Not in a skilled trade, not here. YOU are the system- not your website, upline, meetings or events. That stuff is just the things that allow your new person to become acclimated. If you’re going to TEACH, in a skilled trade, you can only DO that…at the same time that you’re teaching.
And here lies the greatest shortcoming in this business- six and seven figure earners usually aren’t going to DO with you. To be honest, they’ve worked their butts off getting where they’re at and by now, they’re either enjoying the lifestyle or partnering you with someone on their team. Here’s the problem- most Builders have lost the stair case on their way up. In other words, their team wasn’t built and/or maintained to provide for the next, newest person- new people are NOT being physically mentored by someone who is actually DOING.
This is why I’m still in the field while I teach- anyone in this business, no matter your company. I don’t teach what used to work, sort of works or might work. I teach what I’ve been doing in the field for over 20 years- DOING what has allowed me to generate over $80mil. For me, I had to look outside the warm market, so that’s what I teach. I add several dozen people every single week into my businesses…and so can you, if you bring hard work and have the right sponsor or are committed to becoming the right sponsor. And, to this day, I still study from every master I can find.
FOLLOW- DO- TEACH.
If you’d like to learn how I create over 250,000 prospects every single week and then how I convert those prospects into reps and then, how I help them to become successful, check out my free, live class- http://www.themarketingblacksheep.com
I don’t teach lead systems. I teach skill set.
I don’t teach personal development- I develop people, personally.
I may not tell ya what you want to hear but, I’ll always tell ya the truth.
